With The Data Standards Platform, you can automatically translate and align taxonomies. Data to be translated is compared to baseline data you provide to create a new, translated taxonomy. 

Overview

Managing multiple taxonomies across teams and tools can be a manual, error-prone process that slows work down. Claravine’s taxonomy translation capabilities streamline this complexity by automating the mapping, alignment, and transformation of taxonomies.

Whether you’re transitioning to a new taxonomy, using multiple versions, or onboarding clients or internal teams and BUs with unique structures, Claravine ensures precision and campaign continuity. With this solution, brands and agencies can save time, reduce manual errors, and focus on driving better outcomes across the experience supply chain.

How Taxonomy Translation Works

A Claravine-platform admin can start a translation by inputting the data to be translated, as well as the baseline data against which to compare it. The field names in the dictionary must match the associated list name in the list values file; otherwise, the list will not get tied to the field and there will not be matches. Translation quality is best when inputting smaller, specific dictionaries or single templates. For example, inputting a dictionary file with only advertisers is preferable to a file with advertisers, campaign, and more.

Claravine’s LLM translates and reconciles the new taxonomy against your reference. Claravine then generates an overview of results that includes matches and their match confidence, items with no match, and full-confidence matches.

You can copy the values into the List/Fields within Claravine; the table in the translation is fully compatible and the same as all other tables in Claravine. Export is not supported at this time.

Data Uploads for Taxonomy Translation

For taxonomy translation, you must input the data to be translated as well as the baseline data against which it is compared. These can be input in one of the following formats: CSV or Template

The same specifications apply to baseline data and data to be translated.

Input Option: CSV

Upload the data dictionary and list values that need translation (example: trafficking sheet) in two CSV files: one CSV file for the data dictionary, and another for the list values

Data Dictionary CSV File

Upload the data dictionary in its own file:

  • Include only the taxonomy name and its corresponding field names; no campaign data or other metadata should be included.
  • Each taxonomy should start on its own row, clearly labeled (e.g., DV360, Facebook, Twitter).
  • Field names should be listed in the same row as the taxonomy, in adjacent columns to the right.
  • Do not include sample values, formatting notes, or merged cells; only plain text field names.
  • Save the sheet as a .csv file with no additional headers, formulas, or descriptive text outside the field definitions.
  • Translation quality is best when inputting smaller, specific dictionaries or single templates.

List Values CSV File

Upload the list values that need translation in a separate CSV file:

  • Field names in the dictionary and corresponding list name headers must match exactly. 
  • Include one taxonomy per row.

Input Option: Template

For this option, select a list of templates, and Claravine will extract the fields and lists from the templates.

Translate a Taxonomy

This feature is accessible from the Admin Settings menu.

To translate a taxonomy:

  1. As an admin, find the Taxonomy Translation landing page in the sidebar under Admin Settings.

  2. To start a new translation, click New taxonomy translation in the top right.
  3. Input the data to be translated via CSV or Template, referring to the Data Uploads for Taxonomy Translation section.
  4. Input the baseline data via CSV or Template, referring to the Data Uploads for Taxonomy Translation section.
  5. Review your data inputs and click Begin translation

  6. Claravine's translation review process begins. Here, Claravine’s LLM translates and reconciles the new taxonomy against your reference. This can take up to five minutes.

    Claravine generates an overview of results that includes matches and their match confidence, items with no match, and full-confidence matches. Review the results on the dashboard.

  7. Review the results, either in the review modal or tabular format.
    • Review modal: Click Begin review to review the translation by stepping through each field. 

      In the review modal, fields with list values are presented separately: you first review the field, and then step through each of its list values. 

      Confirm suggestions by clicking Next or make needed changes to finalize the output. To change a value, you can either select options form the drop-down or enter free text.

      - Click Exclude to keep the field out of the translation (the option is only enabled if the field is left blank). 
      - Click Skip to move to the next field without making a decision (you can return to it later if you resume the translation). 
      - Next is only enabled if the field is not blank.

      When you have reviewed the fields, the dashboard displays again. The Status column, shown below, reflects your choices during translation (match, reviewed, excluded, etc.).
    • Results table: You can also review the translation in tabular format, right from the Dashboard page. 

      Editable cells are indicated by a pencil icon. Click the pencil next to an editable item to view the options from which you can select or click on the cell itself to insert open text.

      To keep your translation review work area clean, click Columns in the top right just above the table to hide and show columns, so you can hide fields like abbreviations.

      You can also filter the fields you're reviewing by status or match confidence. Click Filter, specify your criteria, and click Apply. You can click Reset to resume default viewing (all fields).

  8. Name your translation. Click the pencil icon to edit the default "Untitled Translation" in the top left and enter a meaningful name.

Access Previous Translations

To access previous translations, return to the Taxonomy Translation landing page. All translations are available here. By default, they are sorted by most recent, or you can use the search bar.
