Administrators can design Templates to generate company-approved URLs with multiple URL parameters. These additional parameters will populate from fields entered by the user in the Submission Table or can be preset (e.g. dynamic parameters).
Thinking Ahead...
There are two ways to set up additional parameters in Claravine and the way you set this up is determine is if a user edits their submission and changes the associated parameter field, should the URL update or not:
- If the URL should not change despite the user editing their submission: Parameters using Patterns
- If the URL should change when the user edits their submission: Parameters using Field Sets
Example Final URL to be generated:
www.claravine.com?cid=[Paid Search (Adobe)]&utm_medium=[Medium]&utm_source=[Source]
Parameters using Patterns:
- If this is a new Pattern, follow the steps to create a Pattern (for Adobe or Google Analytics)
- Navigate to the Template.
- In Step 2 - Define and Govern, click + Select Pattern.
- Check the box to select the Patterns needed on this template.
- Click Select Patterns.
- If the Pattern Element is a variable it must be defined in the template. The errors icon will indicate a warning that this field must be governed. Hover over to view the Edit options, and click to define and govern the Pattern Element variable:
- List: Select the List Name and Column.
- Autofill: Add the Field from the Field Set to autofill from (see Define and Govern Fields). Transform to autofill values into all capitals, all lowercase, remove spaces, or replace spaces.
- Constant: Enter the value.
- Text: Select the Type as Text and add governance.
- Define the link parameter: On the Link field hover over to view the Edit options, and click to edit the Link requirements and parameters.
The Edit Link menu displays. - Click Customize Link Parameters to design the URL.
- Click + Add Parameter to design the parameters to generate the URL as desired.
- Enter the landing page parameter as designated (e.g. cid, cmpgn, utm_id, source).
- Select the Pattern to populate with this parameter.
- Check the box to URL Encode if you want the final URL to be UTF encoded. Encoding the URL will convert any special characters to encoded characters ( colon : becomes %3A, spaces become %20).
- Click +Add Parameters to add as many parameters as needed for the URL requirements.
- Confirm the final URL is correct in the Current Configuration line.
- Click Done.
- Click Save to save the template.
If a Pattern field is used as the link parameter, that parameter will not be updated or changed with a resubmission.
Parameters using a Field:
-
If the parameter is going to reference a field, confirm the field exists in a field set. Add the new field if needed.

Add the field to the Template if it is not currently in the template. If the field is in the template, proceed to step 6.
